SriWild. Sri Lanka's wildlife encyclopedia

About SriWild & credits

SriWild is a free, trilingual encyclopedia of Sri Lanka’s wildlife — written for students, travellers, naturalists and everyone who shares the island with these animals.

Where the information comes from

  • Species lists: research-grade observations inside Sri Lanka from iNaturalist, checked and edited by our editors.
  • Conservation status: the IUCN Red List (global) and the National Red List of Sri Lanka where we have it.
  • Text: written by SriWild editors; some summaries come from Wikipedia in English, Sinhala and Tamil under the CC BY-SA licence and are credited on each page.
  • Photos and sounds: Wikimedia Commons, each credited to its author under its own free licence, plus photos visitors share through Sightings.
  • Maps: © OpenStreetMap contributors. Park pins are approximate centres, not boundaries.

Corrections

Found a mistake, a wrong local name or a better photo? Tell us — names in Sinhala and Tamil differ between regions, and we want to include them all.
