Endemic animals
Endemic animals live naturally in Sri Lanka and nowhere else on Earth. The island’s long isolation and its wet south-west and central hills have produced a remarkable number of them — especially frogs, lizards, freshwater fish, birds and primates. Some, like the leopard and sloth bear, are endemic subspecies: the same species lives elsewhere, but the Sri Lankan form is unique.
